Pre-Rewind

GUARDIAN TO ARCHANGEL

Selaphiel's cycle was live re-experience, not summary—bonds biting skin, heat surfacing from wing roots before Val saw her face, char and wrong mercy of regeneration looping until time lost its edges.

When he started to pass out, she gut-punched him awake: "Don't you dare pass out."

Distant laughter approved from lackeys Val could not see clearly—Joseph and Camael's cruelty muffled by distance and the blur of pain, proof that cruelty always had an audience even when the audience pretended not to count.

Void wakes punctuated the memory layers. Purple spread. Wing hollows stayed open. Warm fragments from mortal school could not anchor him while he hung in the drop between nightmares.

Guardian became ArchAngel in sensation without numbers—years compressed into standing on a ledge that should have felt like victory and felt like waiting for the next hand on his back.

Daniel's sport-kill grin returned in the rearview of memory before the final ritual. One month of plateau dread. ArchAngel tier should have been the top of something. For Val it was the top of a cage with better views.

He had climbed because stopping meant becoming nothing twice. He had reached height and still stood outside command, still witnessed Lateresa frozen, still never spoke the want that might have changed nothing anyway.

The Selaphiel loops and lackey laughter and void purple bled together until even his scream had no sound left in it.

Blackout waited at the end of the blur like a door he had already walked through once and would walk through again.
